About a week about I started a new chapter in my life – the smoothie chapter. I’ve always enjoyed a good smoothie but these smoothies are different. These are healthy.
I know I know, this is a big step for me.
Ever since I was a little human I’ve had this extreme hatred of vegetables. Fruit I can eat until the day I die, but veggies? Veggies make me want to scrape off my taste buds. All of them. It doesn’t matter if it’s cucumbers, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, lettuce, whatever. I’ve never been a fan and at this point in my life I don’t think my taste buds are readily accepting new food groups. I have the taste buds of a 7 year old.
These smoothies are the only way I can eat my veggies. And the best part? I can do it in the morning for my breakfast so I don’t even have to deal with force feeding myself asparagus at dinner. My recipe’s vary but are all simple (and please note I’ve never been one to be good with measuring things out.) Depending on what kind of mood I’m in, in the mornings decides what goes in my smoothie. But typically it’s 3/4 blender cup full of spinach, a handful of oats or sliced almonds, little bit of chia seeds (even though I have no idea what they’re for), 1/4 blender cup of frozen fruit and almond milk. Spin it in the blender and boom done, breakfast ready to go and I feel like Popeye for eating my spinach. I had a smoothie every morning last week and went through an entire tub of spinach from Ralphs which I have never done in my life. Everyone keeps saying ginger is a good thing to throw in there too so as I get a little more brave I may try that.
Not even joking or trying to sound like a healthy person (because trust me it’s a daily struggle to make myself eat healthy things) but I do feel better having these smoothies in the morning. I have more energy and just feel like I kick my day off with the right start. We’ll see how long I can last, I’m going to have to get pretty creative in order to not get bored with them.
