Love Letter: Sara Bareilles

For some reason in the past few weeks, I’ve been on a massive Sara Bareilles kick. She’s all I can listen to at home, at work, in the car, and in my head even when I don’t actually have headphones in.

I remember the first time I heard Love Song.” I was at one of my best friend’s high school graduation parties back in 2009 and they had music playing through one of those Dish Network TV music stations. The song came on and she said something to the effect of “you’re going to love this song and this girl. She just came out but she is soooooo good.” That was just the beginning.

Over the years she’s come out with a with a few more albums, each lovely in their own right. I love Sara Bareilles because through her lyrics, I feel like she really cares about her music. Each word is thoughtfully picked and each chord is meant to flow accompany the words, not rival them. She plays a lot of piano which I love because it makes the songs feel that much more rich, lyric wise. Something about just a vocal and a piano or a guitar and a vocal just makes me want to cry with joy.

Here’s a playlist of my favorite Sara Bareilles songs. Some are from the first album, some are from the most recent album that came out in July and some are from the EP that she released about a year and a half ago that barely anyone knows about. Enjoy.
