TwentySeven Things: September 2014

Standard

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these but I got the urge to reflect over the past month on Saturday. So here we go – my TwentySeven Things for September.

twenty seven logo word doc REVISED 2013

  1. This month was my Letter To Self month. I read a letter from 22-year-old Sarah to 23-year-old Sarah and it was kind of awesome. It’s really lovely to see how much you can grow in just 12 months. So much of my mindset and the way I approach things has changed – but in a good way. I finished my 2015 Letter To Self and can’t wait to read it next year.
  2. I went to the Made In America festival in Downtown LA over Labor Day Weekend and had the time of my life. I wore kimonos and flower crowns and flash tattoos and danced until my feet went numb. Oh and I got to be in the mosh pit to see John Mayer. Yes I was in a mosh pit for John Mayer. (Granted most people were staked out for Kanye but I was living for Mayer.)
  3. I became re-obsessed with Florence and The Machine because of this cover. Also I painted a Florence inspired canvas which you can see at the bottom of this post.
  4. Other artist’s I’ve been obsessed with this month include: Banks, Jessie Ware, Ryn Weaver, Kiesza, Echosmith, Betty Who and Walk The Moon.
  5. I went to the One Direction concert at the Rose Bowl. It was amazing and awesome and I danced and screamed a lot and I regret absolutely nothing.
  6. Fall TV is finally back! Mindy and New Girl and Nashville and Scandal and Grey’s and all of the other new shows mean I have something to come home to and express all the emotions about.
  7. I watched Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday about Paulo Coelho who spoke about the worldwide success of The Alchemist on its 25th anniversary. I was so inspired that I went out and bought my 5th copy of the book. Because I mean who isn’t a sucker for an anniversary edition?
  8. I started going to yoga again. Hiiiiii Core Power, I missed you lots lots lots.
  9. I went shopping this past weekend and bought a lot of Autumn inspired things like sweaters and jeans and kimonos made of thicker fabric. Because I gotta have my kimonos.
  10. Speaking of a fall wardrobe, all of my boots are back in rotation. Boots are back, back again. Boots are back, tell a friend.
  11. I’ve read probably 15 books in the past 4 weeks and that is not an exaggeration.
  12. I have made the conscious decision to be more positive in every aspect of my life because I realized (finally) that good things do not come to negative people. Negative attracts negative, positive attracts positive. Science amiright? (Probably not science but you get it.)
  13. I finally bought my Birkenstocks. I am in love and am never wearing another pair of shoes again.
  14. Unless they are these boots that I also just bought, because I love them too.
  15. With summer finally over, I’ve finally been able to spend a few weekends at home doing nothing and it has been awesome.
  16. My little herb garden is surprisingly still alive. It’s been two months. This is a new record for me sooooo claps for Sarah
  17. I finished both 30 Rock and Parks and Rec this past month. And by “finished” I mean re-watched both for the second and third time respectively.
  18. The Giants made the playoffs! #OrangeOctober begins this week.
  19. Currently trying to find a U-Pick apple orchard in Southern California because all I want to do this fall is pick apples.
  20. I also have been inspired by Pinterest to try and bake some things this fall like banana bread and muffins. Lots of muffins.
  21. My current sweet tooth obsession is salted caramel ice cream. I don’t even care which brand, as long as it’s salted caramel I will be purchasing it.
  22. Can I just say it has taken me a few weeks, but I am now fully onboard with the 1989 era of Taylor Swift. I did need some time (as I do every time she releases new music and it doesn’t sound like Fearless because duh Fearless era is the best era) but I am now fully on board and jam so hard to Shake It Off. Haters gonna hate hate hate hate hate.
  23. Quick Etsy update: dream catchers and headbands have been added to my shop!
  24. I still have purple hair. Kind of. It’s more lavender now (which I am so into) and it is slowly morphing itself into an ombre. Hair game strong.
  25. Re-watched First Wives Club. Inspired yet again to get a white power suit and kick ass.
  26. Countdown is now at 11 days until I get to see Tom Petty live. That means 11 days until I check “See American Girl played live” off my bucket list.
  27. My TwentySeventh thing for this list goes out to this little blog who turns two years old on the 8th. I must plan a little celebration in honor.

Some of my favorite snaps from the past month.

TwentySeven Things: February 2014

Standard

I can’t believe February is already over – did it even happen? It feels like it flew by. It’s rainy and cold and overcast over here in LA instead of our usual 70 degree sunshine. To compensate for the depressing weather I will be drinking tea all day, wearing boots and cuddling up in my sweater to try and heighten my mood. (My mood is severely affected by the weather, that’s what I get for being a Cali kid my entire life.) Here are my TwentySeven Things for February.

  1. I let my Baby Jetta go. One of my longest relationships (7 years) and now she has been set free. She will always be a part of my story, especially the early years when I was figuring out who I wanted to be.
  2. In letting Baby Jetta go, I have a new love – my Ford Escape, Charlie. Like Baby Jetta, Charlie will also be a part of my story except she will be the car I have where I become who I want to be.
  3. My brother came to visit for 4 days this month and we had the best time evaaaa.
  4. I was sorted by the Hogwarts sorting hat into Gryffindor. (BEST DAY OF MY LIFE)
  5. I also got to take a picture on the Central Perk couch and NERDED OUT.
  6. I went and saw a mini Sara Bareilles concert at Jimmy Kimmel. We danced in the rain and sang about how to be Brave. It was pretty amazing.
  7. I went back into the vault and found (yet again) new appreciation for NSYNC’s Greatest Hits i.e. Just Got Paid (which I now blast on my way to work every pay day) and Digital Get Down (still somewhat relevant?)
  8. The Olympics happened this month. I was so sad when my little favorite Gracie Gold didn’t medal. But it’s okay she can come back in 4 years and win America over again with her adorableness. And maybe get a medal too.
  9. Also in regards to the Olympics, one day at work I spent 2 hours looking through all of the athlete profiles and played Hot or Not. Let me tell you, Norway brought their A game this year. Congrats Norway.
  10. The Superbowl was this month. I celebrated with bottomless mimosas and doing the Jonah Hill/Leo DiCaprio “are we flying Rose?” pose with one of my friends in the middle of a Santa Monica street.
  11. I have fully embraced the scunchie. I will be here when they become trendy again but let it be said that I EMBRACED IT LONG BEFORE THE TREND CAME BACK.
  12. I went on a Sunday afternoon walk/hike to a secret Hollywood Hills park with my best friend. It was very peaceful and zen.
  13. I hippy-fied my room even more with hand made earring and necklace holders. They are now on the wall next to my Fleetwood Mac poster.
  14. Girl Scout cookie season is here. I tried staying away for as long as I could but I have finally caved. I downloaded the cookie tracker app and am going to buy some this weekend. MY WHITE FLAG IS WAVING.
  15. Fit February went to complete shit 8 days in. That’s all I have to say about that.
  16. Spring Training for baseball is finally back! I got my first MLB Giants update sent to my phone yesterday and made an audible squealing noise when I saw the notification.
  17. I am totally and insanely obsessed with Hart of Dixie. I am finally on Season 2 now and can’t stop watching even though it’s actually a horrible show.
  18. I went to the Demi Lovato, Little Mix and Fifth Harmony show this month. Which for me, was really all about Little Mix since I love them so much. I DANCED MY ASS OFF.
  19. Also at the Demi concert, I was not prepared for Nick Jonas to come on stage and sing with her. Also unexpected, 16-year-old Sarah to come out and start screaming her face off. Apparently I still harbor deep love for Nick Jonas after all these years.
  20. I finished two books this month – The Interestings and The Fault in Our Stars. Both were very very good. The Interestings was very inspiring and gave me a lot of perspective. The Fault in Our Stars I devoured in four hours and cried three times. It was incredible.
  21. I watched The Brits live from my cubicle two weeks ago and loved them. The British always know how to throw a good party aka give everyone shitloads of booze.
  22. From the Brits I fell in love with a new artist – Sam Smith. I’ve listened to his song Latch about 50 times in the past few days. I seriously cannot get enough of it. Also, Money on My Mind is amazing.
  23. I had Valentines dinner with my best girl friends at the Ray & Stark Bar at LACMA. We had a lovely 3 course meal that we didn’t know was not an option to not order but it was still so fun and we laughed and made all the couples in the restaurant a tad bit uncomfortable.
  24. Also regarding Valentines Day, my friends thought it would be funny to take pictures of me sitting alone in the restaurant before they showed up so that’s exactly what they did. Thanks ladiez.
  25. One more Valentines day – my parents sent me a beautiful bouquet of Gerber Daisies, my favorite flower.
  26. I’m back on my yoga game and feeling super strong like I could punch something and maybe not fall backwards because of the force.
  27. I’m so looking forward to March. January and February always have a weird air to them for me, maybe it’s the weather. I’m ready for Daylight Savings Time and to slowly inch closer to spring.

TwentySeven Things: January 2014

Standard

It’s the 27th of January which means it’s time for a wrap up of the past month. (I’ll be doing my Grammy recap tomorrow.)

Enjoy!

twenty seven logo word doc REVISED 2013

  1. I started 2014 out with some of my best friends and a midnight pool jump. My first brave/fearless endeavor of the year.
  2. Speaking of New Years, I shot off a glitter canon that was actually more of a glitter poof. I amped it up just a little too much.
  3. Sherlock came back with season 3 and everyone died over that window jump followed by hair fluff in episode 1.
  4. I was horribly ill at the beginning of the month and spent two days in bed watching movies.
  5. The Bachelor came back with a new season for Juan-uary. I’m in a huge pool with my co-workers. May the best Juan win.
  6. The Mindy Project tweeted me during the an episode a few weeks ago which I chose to take as Mindy talking to me personally so now I know Mindy Kaling.
  7. I read a few new books including Wild, the Divergent series, The Art of Fielding and am just about to start The Interestings.
  8. Reading all my new books caused me to post this.
  9. The Coachella lineup came out and it’s rad. However I will not be attending because ticket prices are RIDIC. Get over yourselves you pretentious hipsters.
  10. I took a Tracy Anderson workout class and had one of the hardest workouts of my life. I’m definitely #TeamTracy and drinking her Kool-Aid.
  11. I word vomited for the first time in a while.
  12. I went to the Rose Bowl flea market and scored some new vinyl. Also MASSIVELY scored at the Long Beach flea which I was not expecting but pleasantly surprised at.
  13. Christine McVie re-joined Fleetwood Mac and it’s some of the best music news I’ve heard in years. I may or may not have cried a little when I read the official announcement.
  14. I started a new project called Creative Months. I’m not done with the Rolling Stones this month so the next few days are crucial for music education.
  15. I ordered a bunch of new yoga clothes from Old Navy and LOVE them. Was not expecting to love but the love is just bursting out of me.
  16. Learned that if you want to have a George Clooney movie marathon, do not pick Gravity and Up In The Air as your two choices because in one he dies and in the other he is forever alone. Not good for your emotional/mental health.
  17. My brother turned seventeen this month. (Get it, I put it on number 17 because he turned 17 and I’m clever.)
  18. I’ve been on a huge Idina Menzel kick after making Let It Go my new anthem. Last week I listened to Take Me or Leave Me over 17 times in one day. ONE DAY.
  19. I dyed my hair just this past weekend. Nothing drastic, just was impulsive wanted my hair to be super dark again.
  20. Free museum day was this past weekend in LA. I hit up LACMA, MOCA, and PMCA. I feel very cultured.
  21. During my illness, I was so bored with being bored that I started revamping the apartment. I moved the bedroom around, got a new shoe organizer, finished my suitcase nightstand and (will) have all my jewelry hanging on a chicken wire frame and doorknob handles like a little Pinterest hipster.
  22. I have my new amber ring for my Crystal Voyage in 2014.
  23. I used my crock pot for the first time this month and made turkey chili. It was delicious and lasted me for a week which is awesome when you’re poor and have no money for lunch.
  24. I just bought tickets with my roommate to go see Little Mix next month. You don’t even know how excited we are to go see our favorite British girl band.
  25. I am also SEVERELY disappointed I didn’t get to go see the Eagles this past week in LA. I would have killed/given my left arm to go see those legends. (I did even post on Twitter that I was willing to negotiate my left arm in exchange for a ticket but didn’t have any takers.)
  26. This isn’t really something that happened but I hope it never gets below 70 degrees in LA. This month has been full of sunshine and I’ve loved every second.
  27. I got new earrings at the flea market too. They make me feel like Katniss.
