TwentySeven Things: December 2013

Standard

I know, I know, my last post was on Christmas – it’s been a few days. But you know what? I’m actually okay with missing a few days because those days were spent at home with my family being a smart ass and having a lot of fun.

This is a few days overdue, but here are my TwentySeven Things for December 2013.

twenty seven logo word doc REVISED 2013

  1. I made two rounds of candy cane bark this year. It was a hit both at work and with friends.
  2. Infinity Rooms.
  3. I was on my A-game this year as far as presents. I had all my gifts purchased (minus a few family ones) by the 17th of December. This has never happened before. You can consider that a Christmas miracle.
  4. I played Scrabble with my brother both over Thanksgiving and Christmas. I sense this is going to be a new tradition.
  5. For Christmas every year, I am usually in charge of making the tags for the presents. I take that opportunity to have some fun with my task. This year we all got presents from Stevie Nicks, Miley Cyrus, Beyonce, Kanye West and a few other pop culture superstars. Oh and let’s not forget Jesus.
  6. I went and saw Florida Georgia Line earlier this month. My lifelong dream of holding my arms out like an airplane during Cruise finally came true.
  7. Beyonce dropped a surprise album on everyone. My current jam in the car is XO.
  8. I’ve watched Love Actually about 8 times this month alone.
  9. My lunch time routine has switched from salad to soup in this cold weather. I know, I’m extremely fascinating.
  10. Taylor Swift had her birthday this month. I fangirled just a little bit on Twitter.
  11. Speaking of music, I wrote a post about music taste.
  12. I discovered something this month – I have driving moccasins. Shoes I keep in the car just for driving. In other news, I am Schmidt from New Girl.
  13. One of my bosses got me two boxes of macaroons for Christmas. If someone would have captured my reaction I’m pretty sure I would have looked like a 5-year-old. Best present evaaaaa.
  14. I had a little epiphany about time this month.
  15. With all the TV shows on hiatus, I finally had time to catch up on Grey’s Anatomy while I was gift wrapping this month. SHONDA RHIMES WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH MY EMOTIONS.
  16. Katy Perry and John Mayer made a music video and my heart burst into tiny love shaped pieces.
  17. I learned a very important lesson about climate.
  18. Anthropologie and Madewell made a lot of money off me this month. They should send me a giftcard or something HINT HINT.
  19. I had to buy new makeup this month. Makeup that was one shade off from being actually white. I am so pale. I AM SO PALE AND IT IS WINTER AND COLD AND I DON’T LIKE IT.
  20. Everyone needs to watch these kids in the landfill harmonic.
  21. I found a Beach Boys 50th reunion concert on TV while I was home. I sat there and watched as these now old timers jammed out to some of my favorite songs.
  22. My mug sales went through the roof this month. I would like to thank anyone who bought them. I never expected any of this and it’s awesome.
  23. Santa brought me a new yoga mat and towel and I AM SO EXCITED TO USE THEM.
  24. Speaking of yoga, I haven’t been to class in over 10 days. I’m about to get my ass kicked in 8 hours.
  25. I spent 9 days at home and had the best time. I wish I had more time to go home. Basically I wish teleporting or apparating was real.
  26. My mama and I made tamales! And then I forgot to pack some to bring back to LA with me. Most tragic story of my December.
  27. I bought my brother and I these sweaters. Best purchase of my life.

TwentySeven Things: November 2013

Standard

It’s time for TwentySeven Things for November 2013. I have to say, it’s been a pretty solid month. This evening, I’m off on a jet plane back to the homeland for the holiday. I can’t wait to go home, cuddle my cat, play Scrabble with my family and make fun of the dog show with my little brother on Thanksgiving morning.

twenty seven

  1. I had the best Halloween party with my roommate. We ate pizza, drank apricot margaritas and watched Harry Potter.
  2. Daylight Savings Time ended. I am not happy about the fact that it’s pitch black when I leave work at 5pm.
  3. I have fallen deeply in love with Lorde’s album Pure Heroine. I highly suggest checking it out if you haven’t already. Favorites are Ribs, Still Sane and A World Alone.
  4. I went and watched About Time with my roommate earlier this month. Richard Curtis is still a legend. And can still make me cry at the end of a 2 hour movie.
  5. This song has been my jam all month.
  6. I rioted my life away at Wine Riot.
  7. Oprah put out her Favorite Things List. I now have a new favorite list of favorite things because I do whatever Oprah tells me to.
  8. If you were living under a rock, Bat Kid saved San Francisco from danger a few weeks ago. I don’t know if I’ve ever been more moved by a scene at AT&T park. Seeing Bat Kid walk around the Giants Stadium makes me very proud to be a Giants fan.
  9. I learned how to play I Want It That Way on the guitar. Talk about a party trick.
  10. Little Mix came out with a new album I’ve been jamming to. Favorites on that one are Move, Salute, Towers and Boy.
  11. For all you non coffee lovers, I found out you can make the most delicious drink in the world at Starbucks. Get a chai latte and ask them to put 2 pumps of peppermint in it. BAM DELICIOUSNESS.
  12. I spent hours upon hours on the couch a few weekends ago. Some of that time was spent re-watching The Inbetweeners movie. Such a classic.
  13. I went to The Getty and had some very productive Sarah time.
  14. Lily Allen has come back into the world and graced us with one of the best songs of the year. And my new catch phrase – “it’s hard out here for a bitch.”
  15. I had a string of days this month where I ate mac & cheese for dinner. Then the next night I ate ice cream for dinner. Grown adult.
  16. The one day out of the month I had to dress semi-nice for work, I decided to do my laundry the night before to have options because that is the responsible thing to do. My plan slightly backfired on me. The next morning I went to put on my black pants, discovered they hadn’t dried all the way, and proceeded to finish drying them with a blow dryer. Innovation, I tell you.
  17. I burned myself quite badly trying out a new way to curl my hair. On the upside, my hair looked damn good.
  18. I also cut a solid 4 inches off of my hair this month impulsively.
  19. I also dyed my hair this past weekend impulsively. (I think I see a pattern.)
  20. I finished the current season of Downton Abbey. You know, the one that hasn’t even aired in the US yet. Don’t ask me how I did it, I admit to nothing.
  21. One Direction’s new album came out. It’s wonderful pop music at it’s finest. I love it, I love them, go buy it.
  22. Colbie Caillat is back with a new single. I listened to Hold On and only Hold On for three days straight. You think I’m kidding but I’m not. Obsessed is not a strong enough word.
  23. I wrote an entire post about how hard it is to put on tights.
  24. I saw Hunger Games at the Thursday, 8pm grandma showing. It was SO GOOD. I was crying 15 minutes into the movie and screaming by the end of it.
  25. Last night I saw Justin Timberlake at the Staples Center. He sang for 3 HOURS. THREE ENTIRE HOURS. He was incredible – a true legend.
  26. My roommate and I put up our Christmas tree! But we can’t find the string of lights to go on it. We’re working on it.
  27. I found out Teddy Geiger wrote a One Direction song (Little Black Dress for those of you curious.) My reaction was to scream for a few seconds, then have my heart burst with love. Teddy Geiger was MY MAN when I was younger. If you don’t remember him by name, play this song and within the first few seconds you’ll be transported back to 2006.

Here are some pretty Pinterest pictures from the past few days. Oh and here’s this, because it’s not a proper Wednesday without it.

TwentySeven Things: October 2013

Standard

Happy 28th of October. I’m a day late because of the weekend, but here are my TwentySeven Things for October 2013.

twenty seven

  1. I am now an official black tag member at Core Power Yoga and it is my current obsession. (cough Tunnel Vision cough.)
  2. The Dodgers didn’t make it to the World Series. I was so happy I almost cried. Literally ANYONE could win the World Series as long as it’s not the Dodgers.
  3. I made quite a few terrible jokes via Twitter. See here and here.
  4. I bought 72 mugs from the dollar store. All at one time. They had to give me a dolly to wheel the boxes out to my car.
  5. I finally figured out a way to watch season 4 of Downton Abbey even though right now it’s only playing in the UK. I would tell you how, but then I would have to admit to some things I don’t want to admit to.
  6. Katy Perry’s new album Prism has hit iTunes. I still haven’t stopped jamming to “Birthday.”
  7. I saw John Mayer at the Hollywood Bowl and fell in love with him all over again.
  8. I always seem to do this, but I will somehow forget how shitty plain oatmeal is and try to eat it without adding any brown sugar or honey. Huge mistake.
  9. My Dad celebrated his birthday this month. I sent him a candle that smells like freshly mowed grass on a baseball field.
  10. Little Mix released a new music video. I’m still trying to figure out how I can dance like all of them.
  11. One Direction released a new single called Story of My Life. It’s a much more mature sound than their previous singles. I’m hoping this now makes it more socially acceptable for me to love them unconditionally.
  12. I spent a weekend hanging out with my baby cousins in Temecula and it reminded me just how nice it is to spend time with family. Also how nice it is to play with dinosaurs and monster trucks.
  13. Banana Republic Factory Store is a very dangerous place to find yourself alone on a Saturday afternoon.
  14. I ordered this cute little calendar for my desk at work.
  15. Josh Peck from Drake & Josh fame on Nickelodeon was in my yoga class this month.
  16. One of my favorite past times is playing the little games that Google will have on their home page from time to time. This month, they had a parachute man and a piñata. I played both for an embarrassing amount of time while sitting at work.
  17. I celebrated a friends birthday at Pizzeria Mozza off of Melrose and it was delicioussssss.
  18. I finally made it over to the Rose Bowl flea market this month and binged on a few new vinyls.
  19. I went to the Katy Perry & Friends “We Can Survive” benefit concert at the Hollywood Bowl. She was joined by a powerhouse lineup of wonderful ladies including Ellie Goulding, Sara Bareilles, Tegan & Sara, Kacey Musgraves and Bonnie McKee.
  20. I sent flowers to my Mama, Auntie and Grandma for breast cancer awareness month. You can buy the same flowers and simultaneously donate to City of Hope here.
  21. Earlier this month, I was craving a grilled cheese and tomato soup so bad that I had it for lunch two days in a row. I regret nothing.
  22. I finished the book called Little Bee about a week ago and loved it. Highly recommended.
  23. At 7am on Saturday morning while sitting in a Starbucks waiting for my car to be worked on, I went online and bought a silk robe. Just because I wanted to.
  24. I’ve had quite a few necessary car improvements happen this month. This lead to many hours being spent in various Starbucks’ throughout Los Angeles.
  25. While having wine with a friend one Friday this month, I was approached by a random girl at the wine spot and told I look like Lea Michele. Must be the bangs
  26. I celebrated my One Year Blogaversary this month.
  27. You know those book series you start reading in middle school and they have about 6 or 7 books in total but by the time the 6th or 7th one actually comes out you are now 22 years old? I have a few of those series and the last book in this one particular series just recently was published so naturally I have to figure out how it ends right? But I don’t want to actually buy the book because it’s kind of mortifying for a young woman like myself to buy a 12-year-old book at Barnes and Noble in plain daylight. So my solution? Camp out inside Barnes and Noble and read the book in one sitting. Which I did on Saturday afternoon. I have so much closure now knowing how my beloved embarrassing series ends.

Here are a few of my favorite pictures from the past month. Enjoy.
