Today, my anthem is this gem of a song from the early 2000’s.
Last night, I went to Jimmy Kimmel’s outdoor concert series with my roommate. Sara Bareilles performed and I got to dance in the rain while she sang I Choose You, Brave, Hercules, Eden and King of Anything. After Brave, she took over the concert and said, “okay now it’s MY show. And since you’ve been standing in the rain I think you guys are kind of die hards so we’re going to play a few of the album cuts that don’t get a lot of attention” aka Hercules and Eden. I LOVE Eden so when she sang it, I sang back every single word. She’s so quirky and cute and awesome and I really love her. Plus she has my name so we’re destined to be Sarah squared.
This weekend I’m catching up on errands and then going to a “ladies who lunch” brunch with my friends pre-Superbowl aka pre-Bruno Mars concert. Then I’ll be heading to a house party to watch the
game Bruno Mars concert and bandwagon whichever team is favored to win. I have no shame in bandwagoning football.
Tonight I’m going to a concert and my money for this concert goes to the Young Survival Coalition, an organization that helps young women fighting breast cancer.
The show’s lineup is unbeatable. It’s all female and combined makes a total music powerhouse – Katy Perry, Ellie Goulding, Sara Bareilles, Tegan & Sara, Kacey Musgraves and Bonnie McKee. I have so much love for each of these artists individually (it’s kind of my dream lineup), but more than anything I’m excited that my money for the show is going to help young women who are fighting breast cancer.
Here’s my playlist for the show tonight. You can also find out more about YSL or donate by clicking on the picture of Katy below. #WeCanSurvive
For some reason in the past few weeks, I’ve been on a massive Sara Bareilles kick. She’s all I can listen to at home, at work, in the car, and in my head even when I don’t actually have headphones in.
I remember the first time I heard “Love Song.” I was at one of my best friend’s high school graduation parties back in 2009 and they had music playing through one of those Dish Network TV music stations. The song came on and she said something to the effect of “you’re going to love this song and this girl. She just came out but she is soooooo good.” That was just the beginning.
Over the years she’s come out with a with a few more albums, each lovely in their own right. I love Sara Bareilles because through her lyrics, I feel like she really cares about her music. Each word is thoughtfully picked and each chord is meant to flow accompany the words, not rival them. She plays a lot of piano which I love because it makes the songs feel that much more rich, lyric wise. Something about just a vocal and a piano or a guitar and a vocal just makes me want to cry with joy.
Here’s a playlist of my favorite Sara Bareilles songs. Some are from the first album, some are from the most recent album that came out in July and some are from the EP that she released about a year and a half ago that barely anyone knows about. Enjoy.
